Public Health Nutrition
It focuses on the promotion of good health through nutrition and the primary prevention of nutrition-related illness in the population. The problem with public health nutrition is that it is difficult to agree exactly what it is. The UK Nutrition Society defines public health nutrition as the application of nutrition and physical activity to the promotion of good health, the primary prevention of diet-related illness of groups, communities, and populations. Moreover, human food and water intake affect the public in ways other than health. Perhaps the present interest in public health nutrition is a way to balance the previous century's overemphasis on nutrition science and the chemical and biochemical characterization of food exposure and its effect on human physiology.
